The Views are Different in Toronto: Why this City is one of the Best for International Students

09/03/2017 After Class Activities Language Schools Student Testimonials created by Melissa Lang

Last week on March 5th, Tourism Toronto created their new video highlighting the multifaceted characteristics that makes the city great. I sit down with a few students at the SC GEOS School in Toronto and discuss what makes this city truly amazing and unique.

“The views are different in Toronto. A city where all flavours are welcome, where beauty has many faces, where it's okay to let your guard down.” – Tourism Toronto.

Diversity, acceptance of who everyone is and embracing differences is what makes Toronto one of the greatest cities in the world. Tourism Toronto wanted to capture this distinctive characteristic and vibe. They succeeded visually through an artistically impressive short video in only 1 minute and 11 seconds.

Toronto is a mosaic of various ethnic and artistic influences with many faces. The video effectively encapsulates this message through a series of beautifully shot scenes. Some of these include endless varieties of international food catering to every taste bud, and entertainment all available at your fingertips.

Students were asked what their favourite part of Toronto is.  Diversity and people who are accepting, helpful and personable were a few of the most popular answers that immediately popped in their heads. Anna, a GEOS Toronto student from Russia enthusiastically answered, “Toronto has friendly and helpful people who lift my mood”. The overall consensus from travelers in Toronto definitely seems to be that they feel included, most importantly valued and respected for where they are from. No single nationality or culture dominates the immigrant population in Toronto, which rightfully places the thriving metropolis as one of the most diverse cities in the world.

Toronto is the most populous city in Canada and Ontario’s capital. It is the 4th most populous city in North America after Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles.  “Diversity Our Strength” is the motto on Toronto’s coat of arms, and the multicultural hub evidently pays tribute to that belief.

Do you agree that the video represented Toronto’s best qualities? Anything you feel they left out? Take a look! Experience Toronto for yourself and truly see what this city is all about. Every nationality is welcome.
