Intensive Program (30 lessons/week)
At GEOS, our Intensive English Program (and French in Montreal) is communication-based, with an emphasis on developing speaking and listening skills. It is designed to help students improve both spoken and written English/French. With six different levels of study, this course boasts a comprehensive curriculum of integrated skills, with numerous activities focused around grammar, vocabulary & idioms, speaking & listening, and reading & writing.
Our professional, experienced and attentive instructors will help you gain fluency by using creative and helpful learning tasks. With 14 or less students in each class, there will be plenty of opportunity to practice whilst meeting interesting new friends from around the world.
There are a total of six different levels of study, from beginner to proficient with a placement test to ensure each student is placed in the right. At the end of each four-week session, students will be given a written evaluation and have the chance to talk individually with his/her teachers about academic progress and developing future goals. Students will receive a report card after every three month semester, and students who successfully complete their course will be awarded with a GEOS certificate.
Our Intensive Program meets five days a week, for a total of 30 educational lessons. Students are taught by up to three different teachers throughout the day (one for the morning class, one for the afternoon class and one for the elective) and are provided with the most up-to-date, useful textbooks and materials available.
***Note: Students choose a combination of Active Listening, Integrated Skills and an Elective for a total of three courses as part of our Intensive Program.
Integrated Skills
Integrated Skills focuses on the four main English skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening - through a “Communicative Language Teaching” methodology. New grammar patterns are learned in the context of a conversation or a real-life situation. Students will engage in various activities to practice English including listening tasks, role playing, and stimulating discussions. Practical reading and writing tasks and vocabulary studies are presented as well in our 6 available levels.
Active Listening
In Active Listening, students will cover a variety of topics while practicing English conversation management, conversational styles, and pronunciation. Students learn commonly-used idioms and slang in a communicative way. Teachers also use various activities to introduce students to these new idioms including listening tasks, role playing, and context-relevant discussions. There are 6 different levels available for students.
Electives
Students of the Super-Intensive English Program are able to choose an elective course that interests them and/or benefits their English goals. We offer a variety of courses including TOEFL iBT Test Preparation, TOEIC Test Preparation, IELTS Test Preparation, Academic Writing, Business English/French, Pronunciation, and others.
